The Year of the Dog

Well, what do you know, it’s the Year of the Dog – the last one was back in 2006, which happened to be the year Diva Telecom first opened for business and, as of 16th February, it’s back!

We’ve got a good feeling about this...

Gather Round

We’re about to take it back. Way back. Back to ancient Chinese folklore where the Jade Emperor invited 13 animals to a very important meeting. But first, does everyone know what Chinese New Year actually is?

Well, in a nutshell, it’s also known in China as Spring Festival and is an annual celebration that lands on the new moon anytime between 21st January and 20th February – the dates change every year. Each Chinese New Year is characterised by one of 12 animals that are included in the Chinese zodiac and are divided into 12 houses – each house has a time length of one year rather than one month.

Chinese Whispers

Ok, now for the story. While most of us know the basics about Chinese New Year, its origin story frequently gets omitted from all the reminders we receive, leaving us to ponder exactly how the Chinese decided which order to put the animals in the first place…

We found the answer!

As legend has it, after the Jade Emperor summoned the animals to his get together he announced that the years on the calendar would be named in order of their arrival, resulting in ‘The Great Race’. But hang on, I thought you said 13 animals were invited, what happened to the other one? We’re gutted to report that the cat appeared to have drowned en route…

Diva & the Dog

So, since we have a special fondness for the Year of the Dog, what are some of it’s qualities and do we share them?

“Dogs are lucky to the Chinese because they represent fortune. People born in the Year of the Dog are characterised as loyal, sociable, diligent, smart, courageous and adaptable. They’re not afraid of difficulties in day to day life and have a harmonious dynamic with the people connected to them.”

Well here, here. It just so happens that the same goes for companies born in that year too. Everyone at Diva enjoys spreading plenty of good fortune and we take great pride in our ability to build harmonious long-term relationships with our customers plus, if we do say so ourselves, we’re more than a bit adaptable! We wouldn’t have made it to nearly 12 years in business otherwise. Happy days for Diva customers, you’re in safe hands. Fortune is coming your way!

Lucky Numbers

This is the bit we’re great at: numbers.

And we have some excellent news! Lucky numbers in China for this year are 3, 4 or 9 and will remain so until the 4th February 2019 when the Year of the Pig begins. So, if your business is looking for some international numbers, particularly Chinese numbers, we’ve got you covered. Why wouldn’t you want to add a bit of extra fortune to your business in 2018?

To sweeten the deal even further we’ll be offering you 10% discount on any Chinese telephone numbers that contain a ‘3’ – it IS the magic number after all! To claim your discount, contact us on 0330 333 0330 (yes, we really do like threes) and quote “Chinese Number Three’. Then we’ll get you sorted.

In the meantime, you can find out more about our Chinese numbers and other international numbers here. We hope you enjoyed the read!
